TDR Radar Level Transmitter
The PSM Series 6011 TDR Transmitter is used in conjunction with PSM Series 6030 Primary Displays and 6040 Secondary Displays provide a complete tank gauging solution specifically designed, manufactured, and tested, to meet the arduous needs of Naval Ships.
Principle
The principle of Time Domain Reflectometry addresses key requirements for tank gauging on Naval Platforms identified as:-
A common technology for all duties
All shipboard tanks irrespective of content and whether vented, sealed, or seawater displaced (dieso) employ an identical sensor.
Insensitive to liquid type or Specific Gravity
The TDR principle monitors and tracks the level of the interface point between two different mediums e.g. Air & Oil, or Oil & Water. Changes in SG values of the liquid do not affect the measurement.
Interchangeability
All electronics modules are identical and set up for a specific duty by simple remote configuration routines on the PSM 6030 Primary Display. The 6030 Display also holds a copy of the configuration settings for all connected TDR transmitters meaning exchange units can be quickly put into service with no requirement for specialised calibration equipment
High reliability / low Maintenance
With no active components in the tank and no mechanical calibration needs there is no requirement for routine tank access.
Distributed intelligence and multi-level redundancy
Having the configuration data resident in the TDR unit itself and backed up on the display units, combined with the use of distributed bus controllers means that loss of a specific unit affects that unit alone.
Gauging of irregular shaped tanks
Naval ships often feature irregular tank shapes. The wave-guide may be formed to follow the curvature of a tank where a vertical installation would not allow gauging of the entire tank depth.
Displays
PSM Series 6000 Displays are used in conjunction with the 6011 TDR transmitter to provide a complete tank gauging solution specifically designed, manufactured, and tested, to meet the particular needs of Naval Platforms.
Primary Display
The PSM 6030 Primary Display provides a full colour Graphical representation of tank contents with multiple page displays, each laid out according to the specific vessel and tank arrangement.
Diagnostic and Status Pages also show the overall operational health of the system.
Screens are accessed by dedicated function keys clearly indicated by on-screen prompts, The Primary display includes full diagnostic and service facilities, and carries on-line user guidance to allow ship staff to fully monitor operational health and support the system with no specialist calibration knowledge or additional Hardware
Secondary Display
For localised displays, the PSM 6040 Secondary Display provides a simple “at a glance” indication of a specific tank status. Depending upon requirements it may be locked to a specific tank or may be set to scroll around a specific list of tanks. The LCD display is backlit for high visibility in areas of low illumination.
A Ship may be equipped with as many displays as are required, and the information for all tanks is available at all locations, transmitted over a single 2 wire data bus.
In the event of a bus breakage, displays will continue to monitor the portion of a bus remaining visible to them.
