EU Directives [RoSH & WEEE]

What are these Directives?

RoSH- is EU Directive 2002/95/EC of the European Parliament and Council on the restriction of the use of certain Hazardous substances.

The Directive bans Electrical and Electronic Equipment [EEE] being put on the market that contains more than the permitted levels of Lead, Cadmium, Mercury, Hexavalent Chromium and both Biphenyl [PBB] and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether [PBDE] flame-retardants from July 1st 2006.

At the present time, manufactures of “Measurement and Control Equipment” are not included in the scope of the RoSH Regulations. All equipment produced by PSM Instrumentation Ltd is classed as “Monitoring and Control Equipment” and hence falls outside the scope of the regulations. However PSM Instrumentation Ltd is committed to both long-term protection of the environment and that of human health and as such has been working towards being fully compliant to the regulations despite the fact it is not a legal requirement. All new and developing products will be designed to comply with the Directive.

WEEE- is EU Directive 2002/96/EC of the European Parliament and Council on waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment. The purpose of this directive is intended to reduce the amount of harmful and hazardous substances that are added to the environment via landfill sites.

The EC has published a definition of “Finished Product” that is covered by the directive that makes it clear that PSM Instrumentation Ltd products are not legally included. However PSM Instrumentation Ltd would like to follow the spirit of the regulations and so reduce the quantities of hazardous substances added to the environment via landfill sites.

PSM Instrumentation Ltd have adopted the policy of processing “end of life” equipment returned us by a specialist WEEE re-processing company in order that it may be disposed of in accordance with the Directive
